The Keepers is a series of films made by The Good Life Experience telling the story of the festival through the people involved. These are the keepers of the traditions, of the craft and the skills, of The Good Life.
Paul Lloyd, Helen Gittins, Jo Williams and Carla Pownall are Four Potters. With diverse interests and backgrounds, they have one thing in common; a passion for ceramics. Paul lives and works in Wales where he makes work for his wood fired kiln. He's also been director of the International Ceramics Festival held in Aberystwyth every other year. Helen too fires with wood at her home in the Clwydian Hills, but also makes large decorative pieces, inspired by the landscape of the borderlands she loves, for galleries across Wales. She found ceramics as an antidote to a stressful day job and feels working with clay kept her sane and keeps her grounded. Jo's home is on the Wirral where she makes both thrown and hand built earthenware vessels. She experiments with different slips to produce exciting surfaces and textures on her work for shops and galleries in the North West and in Wales.Like Jo, Carla lives and works on the Wirral. She started as a young apprentice where she developed her understanding of clay and mastery of throwing on the wheel. She now makes a range of domestic stoneware and is passionate about raku and the possibilities it offers. All four are coming together to offer raku workshops throughout The Good Life Experience and give everyone a chance to explore their creative side in producing something handmade and unique.
